Adult Education and Training

PWD – Enabling the change from disabled to abled

Media Works, pioneers in Adult Education and Training (AET), have developed life-changing courses for adults with sight and hearing disabilities. Supporting and celebrating the efforts by socially responsible local employers, our material for People With Disabilities (PWD) offer these unique individuals the opportunity to achieve economic freedom and improved self-reliance through employment.

Technology is a universal language
Over 2-million South Africans are faced with hearing or sight challenges. Unable to develop basic literacy and mathematical skills, their social and economic lives are hugely limited. Determined to eliminate illiteracy one person at a time, the development of technology-based PWD courses was a natural next-step for Media Works.

Our material for the deaf is endorsed by the Deaf Federation of South Africa (DeafSA) and our material for the blind complies with the Unified English Braille Code (UEBC) standard. Our PWD Braille course material for Blind was the first of its kind - globally.

PWD material enables Blind and Deaf adults to progress to NQF Level 1 – the basis for further education and employment. Is your organisation truly committed to changing lives through creating opportunities? We’ve opened your eyes to the possibilities and we hope that you are listening.

Powered by Media Works
Media Works is the expert in Adult Education and Training (AET). Established in South Africa in 1996 we have a national footprint specialising in the provision of NQF (National Qualifications Framework) Level 1 training.

Our outstanding track record is undeniable and our client list is impressive. However, it is our passion for the provision of fundamental human skills that is the driving force behind our business. Media Works does not simply educate; it builds, enlightens and ignites fires in people.

Technical | Touch methodology
Technology is a key component in the PWD material. With a lack of qualified teachers for the disabled, technology is playing a more prominent role in getting education to the disabled.

Material for the Blind
PWD Material for the blind is self-paced. Audio lessons are combined with learner’s material and facilitator interaction. The facilitator’s material is available in both text and Braille. Custom designed Braillette Boards provide a cost effective alternative to the Perkins Brailler.

Material for the Partially Sighted
Based on Media Works’ material for the sighted, all partially sighted learners benefit from increased font sizes and the elimination of graphics which may cause gray scale blurring.

Material for the Deaf
The PWD Material for the deaf is self-paced and requires access to a computer as all lessons are delivered using a sign window and multimedia programmes.

The eyes and ears of AET
Diversity encompasses all differences, not just colour, language and religious backgrounds. Disabilities are seen as inabilities and these able minded adults are overlooked and under-skilled. PWD Material breaks down these barriers and the results are powerful. Employable, determined and positive adults are able to develop the necessary skills needed to join the local workforce. PWD Material – enabling the change from disabled to abled.
