Shannon Meiring — a Bridging Programme Learner at Paarl Media Cape — has excelled in her Adult Education and Training (AET) course work with Media Works.
Currently residing in Groenheuwel in Paarl, Shannon previously worked at Ivan’s Hand Finishing. She has been working at Paarl Media Cape (a Novus Holdings Company) since July 2017, after graduating from the Printing and Packaging Bridging Programme at Novus Academy.
The opportunity to study this course came about after she saw an advert and her mother encouraged her to apply for the programme, which commenced in February 2017.
The subject matter ranged from Foundational Learning Competency in mathematics and communication, to a work readiness programme. Shannon excelled in her course work, achieving results such as 78% for Mathematics and 82% for communication.
The benefits of the learning experienced have been a positive experience for Shannon.
“Through the training, I have become more focused and goal orientated. It has given me a better insight into where I fit into an organisation and the value I can add. It has also improved my overall knowledge of systems being used in the workplace,” said Shannon.
Shannon said her trainer, Lynette Sasman, always encouraged and motivated her throughout the journey.
“All my life I just wanted to be successful. The training has given me a boost in confidence in the working world. Once I have completed my internship, I will look for a permanent job where I can implement what I have learned so far,” said Shannon.
Looking ahead, Shannon says she’d like to ultimately complete her HR studies. After finishing high school in 2010, she studied HR at Boland College, but didn’t have the opportunity to complete the course fully.
“I would love to be an HR practitioner, as it has been my dream job ever since I can remember, as I love to work with people,” she said.
The Media Works team is thrilled to hear about Shannon’s success. We wish her everything of the best for her future studies.
